God knows what you are made of. He isn’t surprised when you mess up. Rather, He invites you to be remade of stronger stuff through Him.
Ash Wednesday is a time where we acknowledge what we're made up of. We acknowledge our relationship to God and deny ourselves to give Him a greater place in our lives.
