This message from Jesus isn't about not taking care of the poor, but rather not holding back our extravagant worship of Jesus.

This is from the story of a woman pouring out expensive perfume on Jesus in worship. His defense was that she was showing true worship, even though the self-righteous people around were saying she should have sold the perfume and donated the money to the poor. Jesus is always in the habit of defending people whose hearts are pure from people who want to shove others down.
