Honor your father and mother—which is the first commandment with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
Honoring your father and mother doesn't necessarily mean obeying if they tell you to do something contrary to what God would want. But it does mean respecting their place in your life.
